People applying for unemployment insurance benefits with the state Employment Development Department office will be in for a pleasant surprise. Monday as the office begins processing unemployment insurance claims by computer.
Jim DeSon, manager of the office, said the computerized system will enable department officials to enter claims and retrieve information in seconds. The current manual system can take up to two weeks to process claims, he said.
The El Monte office, at 10404 E. Valley Blvd., will be the first in the San Gabriel Valley to become computerized. Department offices in Pasadena, Pomona, West Covina and East Los Angeles will follow by mid-July, DeSon said.
