The American Heart Assn. and American Red Cross recommended improved lifesaving instructions that, for the first time, give precautions for resuscitating people who may have infectious diseases such as AIDS. Both organizations stressed, however, that there are no cases of AIDS being spread in mouth-to-mouth resuscitation or in resuscitation training, and encouraged continued use of the technique. The revised CPR standards were published in today’s Journal of the American Medical Assn.
