VIVALDI: “IN FURORE”; “MOTTETTO PER LA SOLENNITA DI SAN ANTONIO”; “CANTA IN PRATO”; “LONGE MATA UMBRAE TERRORES.” Cecilia Gasdia, soprano; I Solisti Veneti conducted by Claudio Scimone. Erato NUM 75181 (digital). Gasdia, the latest soprano bidding for international superstar status, acquits herself with genuine nobility in these “vocal concertos,” four of 20 surviving pieces completed in Venice during the second decade of the 18th Century. Despite a few passing pitch problems, Gasdia wields a coloratura flexibility as marked in agility as it is fervent in its warmth. Scimone contributes vivid accompaniments. However, the motets, formula writing at best, are most happily sampled one at a time.
