Responding to public pressure, the Glendale Police Department has released more information on the fatal shooting by police of a man who was holding a television remote-control unit that the officers thought was a pistol. Police said Javier Alvarado, 23, of Glendale, had taken LSD and PCP, both hallucinogenics, and told police to shoot him as he pointed the remote-control at them. Three police officers, whose names were not made public, fired twelve times and killed the man, police said. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County coroner’s office said test results to show if Alvarado had drugs in his body will not be available for several weeks. Police say they based their information on interviews with people who were with Alvarado the day of the shooting.
