A 25-year-old sailor was killed Saturday when his motorcycle blew its rear tire on an Interstate 8 ramp, the California Highway Patrol reported.
The victim, whose identity was withheld pending notification of relatives, was traveling east on the ramp connecting I-8 with southbound Interstate 5 about 5:50 p.m. Saturday when the tire blew. The cycle went out of control and struck another sailor’s motorcycle, but the second driver suffered only minor injuries, CHP officials said.
Both men were from the Naval Air Station at North Island.
The fatally injured sailor was taken to UC San Diego Medical Center, where he died about 6:45 p.m.
