Norris Coleman, after visiting five of the top basketball programs in the nation where he could have played at once, will remain at Kansas State and sit out a year.
A 24-year-old Army veteran, Coleman led the nation’s first-year players with more than 20 points a game as a Kansas State freshman. The NCAA ruled him ineligible in late February over a technicality involving his high school transcript of 1979.
After Kansas State had lost an appeal, Coleman visited Maryland, Virginia, Jacksonville, LSU and Kentucky. It was widely assumed that the 6-foot-8 forward would transfer rather than stay at Kansas State and sit out a year.
