Proposal for Jogging Track

The idea of a fenced jogging track around the Silver Lake Reservoir, (Glendale section, June 12, 1986) is ill-conceived in that it would benefit the interests of a few at the expense of the majority of people who live and walk around the reservoir.

We would like to speak up for the rights of walkers and bicyclists, many of them children and seniors, who enjoy strolling or pedaling along the lake’s edge and who would be barred from doing so if a fence were installed.

While most joggers are courteous, as walkers we have been subjected to rudeness on the part of a few who push and shove rather than break their stride. There are many places in the city where joggers can enjoy their sport and exercise, but there are only a few areas where one can walk 2.2 miles in a sylvan residential setting which is relatively secure.

Residents of the Silver Lake district have always been concerned about preserving the aesthetic ambiance of the neighborhood that fuses nature and architecture. The construction of a double fence would be an eyesore, disrupting the visual tranquility that residents and visitors to the area currently cherish.
