Japanese fishermen sued the United States.

The Federation of Japan Tuna Fisheries Cooperative Assns. said it filed the suit in U.S. District Court in Washington in an effort to lift regulations that it says prohibit them from going after tuna at night in U.S. coastal waters. The Tokyo group said the U.S. government promulgated regulations last month under the guise of protecting swordfish. But the suit says the new rules really were meant to ban the Japanese from taking tuna in U.S. coastal waters.
