Two Santa Ana residents were seriously injured early Friday morning when one of them lost control of the car they were in and the vehicle landed in a flood control channel.
Russell A. King, 21, and his passenger, Fermin M. Rios, 41, were northbound on Interstate 5 at about 70 m.p.h. near Irvine, the California Highway Patrol said, when King lost control and the car veered out of the No. 2 lane and struck a center divider wall.
King’s car bounced off the wall, crossed three lanes, knocked down 26 feet of perimeter fence and plunged into a 15-foot-deep flood control channel, where CHP officers found the car at about 3:15 a.m. Friday.
King was listed in serious condition and Rios was listed in stable condition late Friday afternoon at Fountain Valley Regional Hospital.
