1,600 Pairs of Shoes Found at Marcos Home on Leyte

MANILA — Former Philippine First Lady Imelda Marcos stored 1,600 pairs of shoes at her childhood home in addition to 3,000 pairs found in Malacanang Palace, the government has reported.

Investigators found 1,600 pairs of shoes, many of them Italian-made, in two houses used by Imelda Marcos on the island of Leyte, a government official said. He spoke on condition of anonymity.

The official said the shoes were found in March, but the discovery was only announced this week. Mrs. Marcos’ childhood home is about 360 miles southeast of Manila.

Investigators found 3,000 pairs of shoes in Malacanang Palace in Manila after Mrs. Marcos and her husband, former President Ferdinand E. Marcos, fled in February. The palace was the couple’s main residence before he was deposed by a civilian-military revolt.
