Memories of Bias and Rogers Should Live On

In Scott Ostler’s excellent article, he indicates that it is unlikely that cocaine will go out of style, and one of the reasons he cites is that he heard on TV news that 600 people died using cocaine last year, out of about 6 million regular (once a month or more) users. One out of 100,000 (he states), odds a lot of users will like, freeways being more dangerous, they’ll tell us.

With those odds, no doubt. A tragic mistake in an otherwise percepting and appealing article. Six hundred out of 6 million, if my mathematics serves me correctly, is one in 10,000; not nearly so appealing.
