Two firefighters and an auto mechanic were hurt in Susanville when the gas tank of the bus they were working on exploded, officials said. The firefighters were from Redding and were driving the bus to an Austin, Nev., fire when they were forced to stop in Susanville because of mechanical problems, said Lassen National Forest spokesman Perry McDonald. He said the firefighters took the bus to the forestry’s maintenance yard and were draining the gas tank when the explosion occurred. The injured were identified as firefighters Kirk Lundstrum and Kevin Chung and mechanic Don Heil, all of whom were treated for burns.
