STRIP TEASE

The series “The State of the Comic Strip” (by Charles Solomon) that recently ran in Calendar lauded Berke Breathed’s “Bloom County” for its originality, humor, progressiveness.
Why, may I ask, does The Times refuse to print the strip? It would be a definite improvement over some of the more recent additions, such as “Out of Bounds” and “Mister Boffo.”

“Bloom County,” which runs in more than 800 papers, was offered to The Times but was turned down. It appears daily in the Los Angeles Herald Examiner.
