Woman Reportedly Shoots Self; Fetus Dies

NATIONAL CITY — A 23-year-old woman who was four months pregnant apparently shot herself in the abdomen Saturday following an argument with her husband, authorities reported. The fetus did not survive.
When National City police responded to a reported gunshot victim in the 1800 block of East 12th Street about 12:30 p.m., they found Catherine Andrada suffering from a wound from a .22-caliber weapon.
A police spokeswoman said relatives of the woman told officers that after an argument with her husband, Andrada said she was going to take a nap and went into a bedroom. A short time later the relatives heard a gunshot.
The victim was flown by a Lifeflight helicopter to the UCSD Medical Center, where a spokeswoman described her condition as fair following surgery.
