Blaming continued sluggish personal computer sales, Applied Data Communications of Tustin said it lost $169,000 in its fiscal 1987 first quarter, contrasted with net income of $83,000 a year earlier.
For the period ended June 30, the maker of disk drive testing equipment had revenues of $1.9 million, down 38% from $3.1 million.
In addition to the soft computer market, Applied Data president Pat Kane said, the quarterly loss also reflected the company’s increased spending on new products for the emerging generation of 3 1/2-inch floppy disks and disk drives.
Kane said the company’s new products are expected to generate revenues during the third and fourth quarters of the current fiscal year.
