American Protection Industries, a privately owned Southern California company, will pay Mobil $30 million for Apex Orchards of Bakersfield. Apex Orchards’ assets consist primarily of almond and pistachio acreage and processing facilities formerly owned by Superior Farming Co. Mobil acquired Superior Farming as part of its 1984 purchase of Superior Oil. Apex has 11,500 acres of land and 105 employees. In January, Mobil sold 23,000 acres of grapes and fruit, as well as rights to the Superior Farming Co. name and trademarks, to an investment group for $100 million.
