PacTel and a union agreed on a new contract.

Pacific Telesis and the Communications Workers of America announced that they have agreed on a new three-year contract that includes a pledge of no layoffs, a 2% annual wage increase combined with a profit-sharing plan and job training. Ratification of the contract, which will affect 44,000 workers, is expected by Sept. 12. In a separate development, the union said its AT&T; employees ratified a new contract by a 3-to-1 margin.
