Bill to Bar Airline Bias on Handicapped OKd

WASHINGTON — The Senate approved legislation Friday to bar discriminatory practices by airlines against handicapped travelers.
The Senate bill, which was sent to the House, would incorporate anti-discrimination provisions into the Federal Aviation Act and order the Transportation Department to establish enforcement regulations within 120 days.
It also would order the Transportation Department to set regulations to enforce the ban.
Senate approval came after a recent Supreme Court ruling held that airlines are not bound by the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 because they are not direct recipients of federal funds.
