Quest for Hotel Rates

You can get a 50% discount off regular rates on a space-available basis at more than 500 hotels and motels throughout the United States, British Columbia and San Juan through membership in Quest International, a 4-year-old hotel marketing organization that claims about 200,000 members.

Membership costs $99 annually, but the same membership in Quest International may be available for less as a special service offered by local clubs and associations to their own members.

When you join Quest you get a non-transferable wallet-size membership card, and a hotel directory stating regular price ranges at each property listed. While prices may fluctuate throughout the year, the same half-price reduction is available as long as Quest rooms are offered by the hotel or motel.

This directory is updated quarterly for those who join Quest directly. If you join through another entity, it’s up to that organization to provide the updates.

Reservations are made with the hotel itself, and can only be made up to 30 days in advance. While making reservations well in advance is advisable, the same discounts may be available if you show up without a reservation. To make a reservation, you only have to identify yourself as a Quest card-holder and give your card number.

Bookings can’t be made through travel agents or a central reservation system. In addition, you can’t use any other discount with the Quest discount.

Your reservation will be on a confirmed basis, but you do have to present your Quest card plus one piece of identification when you check in. Quest also provides a toll-free phone number to use if any problem arises.

While the program is available on a year-round basis, individual properties may have blackout periods, especially on holidays; or only offer such discounted rooms on weekends or weekdays, etc. The directory also provides some information on this score.

Hotels and motels in the program include properties from such chains as Hilton, Ramada, Holiday Inns, Sheraton, Howard Johnsons, Best Western, Stouffers and Westins.
