Marantz, citing the continued weakening of the dollar against the Japanese yen, said it lost $1.6 million, or 70 cents a share, in the second quarter despite a 152% increase in sales to $18.1 million.
In the same period a year ago, Marantz lost $1.7 million, or 73 cents a share, on sales of $7.2 million.
Marantz, which sells stereo and video equipment manufactured in Japan, said that since September the company’s cost of sales has soared 36% largely because of the rise in the value of the yen. In September, a dollar could be exchanged for about 240 yen. Now the exchange is one dollar for about 154 yen.
