A resolution allowing professional athletes from other sports to compete in international track and field events is likely to pass this week, said President Primo Nebiolo of the International Amateur Athletic Federation, the ruling body for track and field.
“It will be a revolutionary change,” Nebiolo said. “It represents a drastic swing from traditional rules, including those of the International Olympic Committee. But we feel that this innovation by IAAF will inevitably lead to a change of eligibility rules within the IOC.”
Nebiolo said the resolution will be voted upon at the congress of the IAAF in Stuttgart, West Germany.
