Tillman Floors Parsons Twice and Stops Him in First Round

LAS VEGAS, Nev. — Henry Tillman, former North American Boxing Federation cruiserweight champion and 1984 Olympic gold medalist, stopped Cedric Parsons of Brockton, Mass., Tuesday night in the first round of their scheduled 10-round bout.
Tillman, 191 pounds, of Los Angeles, knocked down Parsons twice before the referee stopped the fight. The victory improved Tillman’s record to 11-1 with eight knockouts, while Parsons, 193, dropped to 13-4 with nine knockouts.
In another bout, undefeated Greg Haugen, 137, of Las Vegas earned an easy 10-round unanimous decision over Ernie Landeros, 136, of Eagle Rock, Calif., in a lightweight bout.
Haugen, 18-0-1 with nine knockouts, won by six, five and four points respectively on the three judges’ scorecards.
Neither fighter was seriously hurt or in danger of being knocked down or out.
