A man who had been stabbed in the chest early Thursday morning, apparently on the beach, was pronounced dead on arrival at a hospital trauma center, police reported.
The victim, identified as Derek Clifford Bowen, 27, of Laguna Beach, apparently had staggered up the steps from the beach at Cress Street just after midnight, according to Lt. William Cavenaugh. Bowen, bleeding profusely, collapsed in the 1200 block of Ocean Front Street.
He was flown by helicopter to Mission Community Hospital in Mission Viejo but was pronounced dead on arrival there.
“We have no motive, no suspect and no weapon at this time,” Cavenaugh said.”
