DALY CITY, Calif. — A safety net snapped when two circus acrobats were shot into it from a cannon and an eight-foot metal pole supporting the net was thrown into a crowd of spectators, injuring 15 people, officials said.
The five adults and 10 children injured Thursday night at the Ringling Brothers and Barnum & Bailey Circus at the Cow Palace were treated for bumps and bruises, according to officials at Seton Medical Center in Daly City south of San Francisco and Peninsula Hospital in Burlingame.
The 1 1/2-inch diameter pole pulled loose when Captain Christopher and Commander Henry plunged into the net and hit the spectators from behind, said circus spokesman Ken Wachter.
