Faulty Traffic Signals Blamed in Car-Bus Crash; Driver Hurt

A power outage affecting traffic lights at a downtown intersection was blamed for a collision Wednesday between a Greyhound bus and a car that injured the car’s driver, police said.
None of the 34 passengers on the Greyhound coach, which was leaving Los Angeles for Florida, were hurt in the crash shortly before 6:30 a.m. at 5th and Los Angeles streets, said Detective Tony Bartolotto.
Firefighters used the “jaws of life” rescue equipment to free the driver of the car, Arnoldo Viscara, 43, who was trapped when the bus hit the left side of his car. Viscara was reported in stable condition at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center with possible head injuries and various facial cuts.
Both vehicles apparently entered the intersection at the same time because traffic signals were not working, Bartolotto said.
