The California Office of Emergency Services issued an earthquake advisory for the White Mountain Fault area north and east of Bishop, saying a series of small quakes had been recorded and that a quake as strong as 5.0 on the Richter scale might occur within the next three or four days. At the same time the office cautioned that it could not be certain any quake would occur. The area involved is the same one struck by a series of temblors, the strongest 6.1, in July.
