Rising water forced more evacuations along Montana’s Milk River Valley, as National Guardsmen and residents piled sandbags on flood-battered dikes and braced for a crest. Floodwaters that killed one person and hundreds of head of livestock have forced more than 100 evacuations and endangered farming communities along 150 miles of the river. The flooding was the worst in 34 years in northern Montana, and the National Weather Service predicted that high water would persist for up to a week. The Milk River was expected to peak about five feet above flood stage at Glasgow, a city of 4,500.
