The USDA said farm prices dropped in September.

Prices that farmers get for raw products on the average staged a 2.4% retreat last month, the department’s Agricultural Statistics Board reported. According to the report, prices decreased for corn, broilers, hogs, potatoes, apples, soybeans and lemons, while higher prices for milk, beef cattle, lettuce and peaches only partially offset the broad downturn. Prices for corn, soybeans, sorghum, barley and flaxseed were at their lowest levels since the early 1970s. Hog and broiler prices retreated from record levels in August.
