Joseph Wimer, Educator, Reporter, WWII Vet, Dies of Brain Tumor

Joseph E. Wimer of San Clemente, who served for 20 years as director of administrative services and teacher in the Capistrano Unified School District, has died of a brain tumor. He was 64.
During World War II, Wimer served 32 months in the South Pacific with the U.S. Marine Corps. He later worked as a journalist in Riverside, Ontario and San Bernardino before becoming a teacher and school principal in Fontana.
He was with the Capistrano Unified School District from 1966 until earlier this year. His last assignment was teaching at Niguel Hills Junior High School.
Wimer was born in Franklin County, Ga. He attended the University of La Verne in La Verne, Calif.
Wimer is survived by his wife, Virginia; a son, Stephen Ernest Wimer of San Clemente; a daughter, Ellen Porter Russell of Fresno; a brother and sister, and two grandchildren.
Wimer died on Saturday.
Family members said that there would be no services but that contributions may be made in his memory to La Verne University.
