SYDNEY, Australia — A five-minute storm battered Sydney on Friday with hail the size of golf balls that caused millions of dollars in damage and injured at least seven people, officials said.
All of the injured suffered head wounds and were hospitalized in satisfactory condition, an ambulance service spokesman said.
NRMA, one of Australia’s biggest insurance companies, gave a preliminary estimate of $13 million in damage, including dented cars and light aircraft and smashed windows.
“It was so bad we’ve had staff handing out claim forms in the street,” NRMA deputy director Tim Webber said.
