College Roundup : UCI Edges Cal Poly (SLO) in Soccer

Keith Golden scored to break a 1-1 tie 33 minutes into the first half and UC Irvine goalie Mike Gartlen had eight saves in the second half as the Anteaters defeated Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, 2-1, Sunday afternoon in a nonconference soccer action in Irvine.
Mike Perisi scored the first goal for the Anteaters (6-9), who have won four of their last six games. Cal Poly is 9-5.
In women’s nonconference soccer action:
UC Santa Clara 5, UC Irvine 1--Sophomore Karin Grelsson scored the only goal for the Anteaters in Irvine (7-5-2). Grelsson is the team’s leading scorer with nine goals and four assists this year. Santa Clara is 8-4-1.
In Pacific Coast Athletic Assn. volleyball action:
Fresno State 3, Cal State Fullerton 0--Despite 13 kills by Wendy Knapp, the Titans (0-9, 6-19) lost in Fresno. The Bulldogs are 3-4, 6-14.
In nonconference water polo action:
Cal State Fullerton 11, Pomona-Pitzer 9--Al Schade scored three goals and Matt Verga and John Kwilman had two each for the Titans (4-9) in Independence Park at Fullerton.
