A 22-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of grand theft early Monday after he crashed a stolen car while allegedly trying to outrun pursuing officers, police said.
Jose Ramirez of Santa Ana refused to stop when an officer tried to pull him over for a traffic violation about 3 a.m. at MacArthur Boulevard and Red Hill Avenue, according to investigators.
Ramirez, who first fled north on the Costa Mesa Freeway and then east on Edinger Avenue, lost control of the car, which had been reported stolen in Tustin, and crashed into a field at Irvine Center Drive and Sand Canyon Road, officers said.
After being treated at Health Care Medical Center in Tustin, Ramirez was booked into Orange County Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $5,000 bail.
