Swede Working on Sub-Tracking Device Disappears

STOCKHOLM — A Swedish professor reported to be working on a top-secret invention to track alien submarines has disappeared without a trace in the Baltic, police said today.
Svante Oden, 62, went out alone last July in a 30-foot fishing boat equipped for his scientific research in the island-dotted waters of the Baltic north of Stockholm, a spokesman said.
Two days later, the boat was found drifting in apparently good condition but minus Oden and his technical equipment, he said.
A Swedish newspaper said today that Oden was working on an invention which would measure minute wave movements to help the hunt for submarines intruding in Swedish waters.
The newspaper, Svenska Dagbladet, quoted defense and security police sources as saying the submarine-tracking invention had raised interest in the United States and the Soviet Union.
