NHL Roundup : Ciccarelli Gets Goal, 3 Assists as North Stars Beat Devils, 5-3

Dino Ciccarelli had a goal and three assists, all in the second period, and the Minnesota North Stars won their sixth straight game, 5-3, over the New Jersey Devils Thursday night at East Rutherford, N.J.

The victory moved the North Stars into a tie with Toronto for the Norris Division lead.

Brian MacLellan scored twice for New Jersey, but Minnesota took control of the game with four goals in the second period.

Ciccarelli, the league’s leading goal scorer, got his 26th of the season and his 14th on a power play, which also leads the NHL.

Boston 3, Quebec 2--Ray Bourque scored a disputed goal with one second left, 17 seconds after teammate Tom McCarthy tied the score, to push the Bruins past the Nordiques at Boston.

Bourque fired a shot past goaltender Clint Malarchuk, who argued that time had already expired. After a five-minute delay, the goal was allowed, but Malarchuk vehemently argued the call and had to be restrained.

Mike Hough scored both Quebec goals.

Calgary 4, Chicago 1--Jim Peplinski and John Tonelli scored 48 seconds apart in the second period as the Flames turned back the Blackhawks at Calgary.

The victory was the Flames’ second over the Blackhawks in five days. Calgary beat Chicago, 5-4, Saturday, also at Calgary.

The Flames broke a 1-1 tie in the second period on consecutive goals by Joe Mullen, Peplinski and Tonelli.

Hartford 2, Philadelphia 1--John Anderson’s goal at 4:28 of the third period gave the Whalers a victory at Philadelphia, snapping the Flyers’ six-game winning streak.

Philadelphia tied the game on Brad McCrimmon’s 55-foot power-play goal in the second period, after Paul MacDermid scored for Hartford in the first period.
