Taeatafa and Hughes Are Volleyball Players of Year

SAN DIEGO — Karen Taeatafa of Sweetwater High School and Tracy Hughes of Francis Parker have been named San Diego Section players of the year by a vote of section coaches.
Taeatafa, who led Sweetwater to the section 3-A final and a berth in the state tournament, received the 3-A award. Hughes, who led 1-A Francis Parker to the state Small Schools Division III championship, received the 2-A honor. The 2-A team includes any players selected from the 1-A division.
Joining Taeatafa on the 3-A team were her sister, Carolyn; Poway’s Deanne Anastas and Charry Korgel, who led the Titans to the section championship; Serra’s Lynn Patrick and San Dieguito’s Janelle Lantagne.
Hughes is joined on the 2-A team by Amy Randel (La Jolla), Tawni Jeffries (Christian), Brooke Schakel (Ramona), Stephanie Eischen (Marian) and Jenna Borer (University).
