KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent — The owner of an American fishing boat has paid a $37,000 fine after authorities in the Caribbean island of St. Vincent seized his vessel for unauthorized fishing within the territorial waters of St. Vincent and the Grenadines.
The fine was imposed in an out-of-court settlement between Atty. Gen. Carl Joseph and George Townsend, the owner of the boat, Trade, Industry and Agriculture Minister Marcus Defreitas said Tuesday.
Defreitas said Townsend’s vessel, with four Americans and one Dominican in the crew, was seized last Wednesday about 16 miles west of St. Vincent. Townsend’s fishing company is based in Lavallette City, N.J.
