A suspected border bandit who was seriously wounded by gunfire from officers of the Border Crime Prevention Unit has been identified as Ignacio Herrera, San Diego police said.
Herrera, whose age and residence were not known, has been booked along with a 17-year-old juvenile on suspicion of attempted robbery that resulted in a Sunday night shoot-out in the Spring Canyon area that left one man dead and Herrera wounded, San Diego Police Sgt. Hank Olais said. Herrera is recovering from his wounds at Mercy Hospital.
A fourth man, who was with the group and fled to Mexico, is being sought by police.
