Eight Latin American foreign ministers announced a new peace initiative for Central America. Four of them plus the general secretaries of the United Nations and the Organization of American States will visit Nicaragua, Guatemala, Honduras, El Salvador and Costa Rica next year to search for an acceptable peace formula. Ministers from Argentina, Brazil, Uruguay, Peru, Colombia, Mexico, Panama and Venezuela announced the plan after two days of talks in Rio de Janeiro. The new alliance emerged from the Contadora Group, a four-nation body formed three years ago to work for peace in Central America.
