Green Bay Packer wide receiver James Lofton was charged with second-degree sexual assault but said after his brief court appearance that he was innocent and would plead not guilty. Lofton, 30, also said he was “disappointed . . . that things had come to this.”

Lofton was arrested and jailed for seven hours Thursday on the complaint of a woman who said the pro football player forced her to perform oral sex after the two left a Green Bay nightspot at 1 a.m. last Thursday.
