No Sanctuary

I read with shame the article (Metro, Dec. 15) about a Roman Catholic parish in East Los Angeles giving sanctuary to illegal aliens. As a Catholic, I find it reprehensible that a Catholic church has declared a “commitment to protect each other from the law.”
If groups of people decide to violate a civil law that has been put together after much discussion by democratically chosen legislators, then how can civilization survive? In good conscience, I can’t support my church when it violates a just civil law.
It is not in the best interest of the United States of America to violate the new immigration law to appease malcontents. If those immigrants were as persecuted as they claim to be, they would not be flocking here from all corners of the world. They have some nerve.
