The Catholic Diocese of Buffalo, N. Y., said it is canceling special Masses for homosexuals at Our Lady of Lourdes church and ordering priests to prohibit gay groups from congregating on church property. Bishop Edward Head said it is against church teachings for the gay Catholic group Dignity to hold Masses “specifically and exclusively for homosexuals.” Head said homosexuals are welcome to attend church as individuals. Cynthia Ciupak, chapter president, said Buffalo is the only Dignity chapter in New York and New Jersey to be ousted from the church.
