Santa Fe Springs : Heritage Park Contract

A contract for the restoration of Heritage Park, a small enclave of turn-of-the-century buildings inside an industrial park, was awarded last week by the city.

The City Council, acting as the Redevelopment Agency, approved the sole bid by Glendale-based Moulder Bros. for $2.85 million after initially receiving no responses to its first advertisement for bids.

The park will be on six acres of the 67-acre Heritage Corporate Center, at the corner of Telegraph Road and Florence Avenue. The park--which will preserve relics of the city’s history--is the site of a large adobe residence, built in 1815, and a ranch that once had a botanical garden.

The company, expected to begin construction in late January, will landscape the grounds, install walkways and lighting, restore the pump house and a small wooden building, and reconstruct the carriage barn. Other items such as the reconstruction of an aviary, a caretaker’s cottage and various sheds will be done later as funds become available, said John Price, city engineer.

Once finished, the park will reflect the city’s “garden ranch and oil field days,” as well as its modern development by being surrounded by industrial buildings, Price said.
