THE RAMBO REPORT: CALLING ALL RUSSIANS, AFGHANS, THAIS . . .

Casting’s finally under way for “Rambo III,” which rolls in late February and is scheduled for a Thanksgiving release. So we thought we’d give you a look at just what roles the producers are looking to fill . . . as a kind of sneak preview of the latest adventure of our mega-hero.
Highlights from the Breakdown Services castings listings that circulated among agents:
“Russian actors: Prefer real Russian actors or actors who are fluent in Russian.
“Colonel Sayson--about 50; Russian military official in charge.
“Lt. Azov--about 40; Russ military officer; somewhat more sympathetic character.
“Sgt. Kourov--big hulking bear of a man; in his 30s . . . sadistic.”
“Afghanistan roles: Prefer real Afghan actors or actors fluent in Pashto or Persian.
“Mousa--very important role; guide to Rambo; charactery, somewhat humorous man.
“Khalid--leader of guerrila fighters; 30 through 40 years old; large part.
“Mosaad--Afghan holy warrior; need an actor with a strong face.
“Afghan gun dealer--lives in refugee camp outside of Afghanistan; supplies arms for rebels.
“Americans: Griggs; 40 years; official with the U.S. State Dept.
“Dr. Pillar, French woman who is a doctor helping rebels in Afghanistan. About 33.” (This role was later changed to “40-plus year old actress, European, i.e., French, Dutch, Polish, Hungarian.”)
“Thai actors:
“Nyun--a Thai official he works with the Thai police . . . one scene.
“Fight announcer--speaks fluent Thai.
“Thai fighter--engages in brutal, bloody contest. One scene.”
