Railing About Railbikers
I was appalled to read “Riding the Rails,” which describes a sport that is both dangerous and illegal. To begin with, many of the “abandoned railroads” are in fact used--if not daily, then at odd times, even weekly. There is also the danger of finding oneself on a bridge no longer capable of use. Since railroad rights-of-way are either private property or owned by public agencies which do not give permission for their use by private individuals, it is highly illegal to trespass. Railbiking should be discouraged by all responsible media.
