Undercover officers arrested three men on charges of stealing mail from a U.S. Postal Service truck parked in Hollywood. Booked for investigation of mail theft and held without bail pending a hearing were William E. Adkins, 56, Harold J. Compton, 58, and Glenn C. Martin, 38, all of Los Angeles. The suspects were believed to be hunting for U.S. Treasury checks destined for Social Security recipients, postal inspector Cathy Powers said.
