Religious Symbols at Public Sites

I write this letter as a former active member of the American Civil Liberties Union.
The objection to the display on public property of the manger scene and the Hanukkah menorah is very offensive to me.
There are so many worthy civil rights causes today to work for! Was the action a ploy for publicity? Do they think they succeeded?
