Getting Around This tiny square-mile community of 20,000 people and 5,800 homes has its own three-bus transit system. Six days a week, the blue-and-white 18-passenger buses shuttle throughout the city and to nearby shopping malls and medical centers. Cudahy Area Rapid Transit, which has fixed-route as well as dial-a-ride service, includes drivers who will help customers deliver their groceries to their doorsteps, wheelchair lifts, air conditioning and AM/FM stereo. The fixed route starts at city hall and travels on every street in Cudahy. Reservations must be made for the dial-a-ride service (773-5143). Last year more than 200,000 passengers used the system, which does not charge a fee, said Maynard Law, assistant city manager. Funds are provided through Propostion A, the half-cent county sales tax for transit projects that took effect in 1982. This year, CART is anticipating $212,000.
