Faced with shifting enrollment patterns, trustees of the Orange Unified School District propose closing one of seven junior high schools next fall.
The targeted school is Vista del Rio Junior High, 5001 Gerda Drive, Anaheim. The school board Thursday night proposed converting it to an elementary school for fourth through sixth grades
A public hearing for residents in the affected school area will be held at Vista del Rio Junior High at 7 p.m. Jan. 20. A final decision is expected in February.
The school board Thursday also proposed to change the attendance boundaries of four elementary schools in the Orange-Anaheim area. Changes at Fletcher and Nohl Canyon elementary schools are proposed “for a more evenly distributed student enrollment,” said Jacque Wilson, an administrative assistant.
Boundary changes at California and Cambridge elementary schools are proposed because some students must cross dangerous intersections in those areas.
Parents are invited to the following hearings on boundary changes: 7 p.m. Tuesday at both Fletcher Elementary School, 515 W. Fletcher Ave., Orange, and at Nohl Canyon Elementary School, 4100 Nohl Ranch Road, Anaheim; 7 p.m. Wednesday at California Elementary School, 1080 N. California St., Orange, and at 7 p.m. Thursday at Cambridge Elementary School, 425 N. Cambridge St., Orange.
