Aztecs Look to Avoid Fourth WAC Loss

San Diego State will attempt to avoid its first 0-4 start in nine years of Western Athletic Conference basketball competition when it plays Colorado State tonight at 6:30 at Fort Collins, Colo.
The Aztecs (2-11) suffered their third WAC loss Thursday night at the Air Force Academy, 86-75. Their only previous 0-3 WAC start was in 1982-83. SDSU’s first conference victory that season was at home against against Colorado State, 59-45.
Freshman guard Tony Ross, who scored a team-high 22 points against Air Force, leads the Aztecs with an 18.1 scoring average. Ross was not a starter until two games before WAC play began.
Colorado State has won its last four games in Fort Collins against the Aztecs. The Rams (1-2, 7-7) recorded their conference victory Tuesday at Wyoming, 74-71. Wyoming was the preseason WAC favorite.
Forward Pat Durham is averaging team highs of 18.2 points and 9.4 rebounds for Colorado State. Guard David Turcotte is averaging 16.9 points.
