Scott Barrick, Fallbrook High School’s quarterback who led the team to the San Diego Section 3-A title, was named the state’s offensive player of the year by Cal-Hi Sports, a Sacramento-based, high school-oriented newsletter.
Barrick, whose 3,503 yards passing set a state single-season record, was one of four San Diego Section players named to the All-State offensive team.
Also named were wide receiver Patrick Rowe of Lincoln, tight end Junior Seau of Oceanside and running back Tommy Booker of Vista.
Rowe was named the State Medium School (2-A) player of the year. Also named to that team were running back Marcus Hopkins, defensive lineman Lawrence Misa, multipurpose player Keith Mitchell of Lincoln and defensive back Ivory Randle of Crawford.
Selected to the All-State Underclass team were running back Pierre Jones of Sweetwater and kicker Paul Tavares of Southwest.
Hoover’s 21-20 victory over Lincoln was named the state upset of the year.
